Identify this car for me...?

I saw a car on the free way that looked just like a porsche, like an old 911. I've tried to identify which one exactly but i've had a tough time. It was gray with black trim that came up around the backside, not sure if it had a spoiler, if it did it was very small.

On the back where most say "turbo" in the silver cursive writing in the center, it said something on it that i couldn't read, but it was mounted in the top right corner of it's backside and tilted with some smaller text written underneath. It looked just like the "turbo" handwriting. It was a small car.

I'm pretty sure it was a porsche, but it could be something different. any idea's at all are appreciated.

The car pictured looks to be a European 911SC... and it has black trim (so I am not sure just what you mean by "except black trim").

If the car lacked a rear spoiler, it was almost certainly not a turbo. The very first Turbo models could be retrofitted to remove the spoiler, but the later models (1978 and on) have an intercooler that will not fit under the standard rear deck-lid.

The cursive script that was used for "Turbo" on the 930 is basically the same as the earlier Carrera script. Your description is close to what would be found on the right side of the old ducktail cars, reading either Carrera RS (with a 2.7 underneath) or Carrera RSR (with a 3.0 underneath), and then the later Carrera 3,0; this has been copied in many of the R Gruppe cars with enthusiasts having marked all sorts of combinations on their cars.

All told, it sounds like an R Gruppe car or some other owner modified creatation that was probably based on a 60s-80s 911.
