Why does my xbox look worse in HDMI on my hdtv than on my monitor with VGA?

So I just started playing red dead redemption, and I was very disappointed with the graphics. I was experiencing a serious lack of AA, like, everything was jaggy.

This is on a 32" Samsung hdtv .

Then i tried playing on my 22" dell monitor with the xbox vga adapter, and the difference was ridiculous, it looks worlds better on my monitor.

This is the case with all my other games too, really only took serious note of it now. So why my xbox produce such a terrible image on my tv? Could it be my hdmi cable? or just the tv?

The TV has less resolution AND greater screen area than the monitor, therefore the monitor has a greater pixel density. The greater the pixel density, the more lifelike the picture.

Contrary to popular belief, VGA is fully capable of carrying a 1080p video signal (it just can't carry an encrypted copyright-protected one). VGA is good for up to 2048x1536 resolution and beyond.
