Can I use my Dell Flat Panel Monitor as a TV?
I have Directv and the box has a usb port but it doesn't work by simply hooking it up this way... What else do I need to do to get it to function?
First of all, that USB port on your DirectTV box is for service technicians to upload new firmware into the decoder box, NOT for outputting a video signal.
Second, your Dell monitor's USB port is merely a hub, NOT for receiving video signals.
If you want to get DirectTV on your Dell monitor, there are two requirements:
- You must have the High-Definition Direct TV box. The standard-definition one will NOT work with computer monitors. If you don't have an HD Direct TV box, call Direct TV and ask for an exchange.
- Your Dell monitor must be HDCP-compliant. If it is, it should have an HDCP-compliant HDMI or DVI port that can be connected to the DirectTV HD box's HDMI or DVI output, so you can watch HD programming on your monitor.
