My Baby Has Gastroschisis... Please Help!?
Yesterday my heart sank when my doctor told me my baby girl has Gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is an opening in the abdominal wall through which the internal organs push outside of the baby's body During fetal development the abdominal wall fails to close properly leaving an opening. It occurs in approximately 1 out of every 5,000 births.
I Am devastated. The doctor said it is an easy fix when the baby's born, but there is still a chance she wont make it. Its slim. But theres a chance. I have to get a bunch of ultra sounds until my due date August 11th...
Anyways has anyone else gone through this or know anyone who has!?

I have seen babies born with this condition many times in my career as a nurse. I can tell you that a team of doctors and nurses from the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit will be at your delivery. When the baby is born, they will put wet gauze pads on your baby's belly and as long as she is ok, they will let you see her briefly. Then they will take her to the NICU to evaluate the extent of the gastroschisis and prep her for surgery. All of the babies that I have seen in the last few years have survived and have done well.
